Canadian cell phone costs edge down | iPolitics

MONTREAL ? Prices for mobile phone services have decreased since last year, says a joint study commissioned by Industry Canada and the CRTC.

The study, done by Ottawa-based Wall Communications Inc., found that a typical package of mobile phone services ? including voice, text, call display and voicemail features has fallen about 13 per cent.

While prices for data packages decreased about five per cent compared to last year.

The study says Canada remains in the middle of the pack in terms of telecom rates compared with the U.S., France, United Kingdom, Australia and Japan.

It also found that prices for higher-speed broadband Internet services were higher in Canada than those in all of the surveyed countries ? with the exception of the United States.
